In Gordon Brown’s speech to the Labour Party Conference, he announced plans to provide 10 hours a week of free childcare for 2 year olds in England only but that this would be at the expense of the childcare vouchers system.
For the hundreds of thousands of working parents across the UK who currently use childcare vouchers, this would mean an end to the thousands of pounds in vital savings they are entitled to on registered childcare. If they do go ahead and phase out this benefit - anyone who is in a Scheme by 2011 will be entitled to stay in the scheme until 2015.
We have been campaigning against this proposal together with other voucher providers and childcare and parenting organisations
As you may have seen, the debate around childcare vouchers features heavily in today’s media.
We would like to encourage all our clients and childcare providers to support this campaign by signing the Downing Street Petition to keep childcare vouchers - petitions.number10.gov.uk/keepvouchers
May we also also point you to the campaign website for more information - you will also find template letters that you can use to write to your own MPs - there are 3 letters depending on whether you are an employer, a parent or a childcare provider www.savechildcarevouchers.org.uk/
You could also write follow up letters to the Guardian, Mail or Telegraph and posting comments on BBC online.
